For
over 900 years, London's great fortress has dominated the
city. The Medieval Palace, centered on the Western entrance
of the fortress and Water Lane, is a group of buildings that
includes the infamous Bloody Tower, the poignant Traitor's
Gate, Wakefield and St. Thomas' Towers and the Queen's House.
The main entrance to the Tower is along Water Lane, so called
when Edward I (1272 - 1307) expanded the fortress by reclaiming
land from the River Thames and constructing new curtain walls. |
