As you travel south on the A286 from Milford toward
Haslemere town center, Milford Lodge Gatehouse is on the southwest corner at the intersection of Lea Coach road and is
situated at one of the entrances to Witley Park, a tranquil 500-acre area originally known as Lea Park. Man has occupied
the area around Haslemere from early times but it wasn't until 1394 however, that Haslemere was granted a charter by King
Richard II, which authorized a weekly market. In 1596, Queen Elizabeth I granted a new charter permitting two annual fairs
shortly after she had created the town a Borough.
