Craigievar,
from the Gaelic, means "the rock (or hill) of Mar" is due
west of Aberdeen in the Grampian area of Scotland. It was
in 1457, that Craigievar first appeared in any records,
as a possession of Mortimer family. The Mortimer's raised
the castle in about 1600 but were forced to sell the unfinished
structure and accompanying land to William Forbes of Menie
in 1610. William, a very successful merchant who owned land
throughout the east of Scotland, commenced work on the unfinished
castle, employing the best masons and craftsmen available...
